The Professor of BBQ

A world record-breaking pitmaster, former Marine, and classically trained chef, Tuffy Stone is known as “The Professor” for his legendary precision and scientific approach to smoke.

Originally trained in French cuisine at La Maisonette, Tuffy built a successful career in Richmond’s culinary scene before discovering his passion for barbecue in 2004. Since then, he has become one of the most formidable competitors on the circuit, winning Grand Champion titles at nearly every major BBQ competition, including back-to-back American Royal victories and a record-breaking three-time win at The Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational. Beyond competition, Tuffy has judged Barbecue Pitmasters, cooked for troops in Kuwait, taught BBQ classes worldwide, and even showcased his skills at the James Beard House. His cookbook, Cool Smoke: The Art of Great Barbecue, cements his legacy as one of the most influential figures in BBQ.
